Sultry and soulful was Sondra Mitchell's mode of expression with her debut EP
release of It Starts Here. Mitchell began her love affair with music at the age of
three in her native Long Island, NY. It was in grammar school that her teachers
motivated her into participating in the choir and perform in many of the school
plays. Classically trained yet, very creative she felt she had something to offer to
the public. At 12 years old, she started her own pop all-girl group called Boy
Krazy. The group received interest from major record labels like Atlantic records.
This encouraged Sondra more than ever. She began attending Stony brook University
for music and continued to hone her voice through session singing and doing
background for other countless professional musicians in the industry. She started
writing her own material and cut a demo. Mitchell moved to Los Angeles in early
2000. Upon relocating she landed into a setting of supportive management and a
fantastic bunch of musicians, including bassist of the year nominee Alex Al
(previously worked with Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Shakira), guitarist
Michael O'Neill ( Aretha Franklin, Santana), and pianist J. Michael O'Neal (Chaka
Kahn, Teena Marie), to help her in the recording of It Starts Here Mitchell began
playing festivals and some of Hollywood's hottest clubs. She receivied press from
some of Hollywood's major prestigious music and entertainment magazines, such As The
Music Connection and Noho LA. Recently Sondra started embracing writing for
television, too. One of her most recent projects was writing the theme song for
Adelphia Cables TV show Senior Heroes Of America. The song currently gets heard in
one million homes a day in Southern California.

I really wish we were hearing NEW music from DHI, as these songs date back to the very first days of my interest in industrial music. 'Chemical Land' is one of the first industrial songs I ever sang the chorus to. And, in addition, it's the second time I'm owning the CD (after trading it a year or two ago for Skrew.. don't ask). I remember seeing specials on Much Music about them, and how amazing it was that someone was making this music so close to home. At the time, these songs held up much better. Now the little slap bass keyboard sounds, and minimal sounds don't do nearly as much for me. I still love 'Chemical Land' - the intro instills so many memories for me. 'New Vision' is another hitting stomping song. I like the sounds of string strikes in 'Can You Change?' like they have on 'Pain And Courage' from the "Pressures Collide" album. A LOT like that, actually.. hm. I'm glad I have this more for nostalgia's sake than actual listening, but it still has a lot of merit. - Jeremy Pfohl, Chart Magazine

Kissing the girls and making them cry for the past forty years Raymond has played with dance classes, drum choirs, dance troupes, acting groups and blues and rock bands. He has had the pleasure of playing with Jimmy McCracklin, Carla Thomas, Marvin Holmes, Albert King and other greats. Raymond founded SELECT Records in 1981 with artists Masterpiece, Starlite, the Fabulous Playmates and The Original Ladies' Choice where he has been the featured percussionist. Pure 80Us electro songs dressed up with underground attitude will be recognized for its originality and uniqueness. Dark rythms, 80's electro keyboards, deep gothic vocals, dark wave at its finnest form, I am really wondering how come Plastic Noise Experience are not so well known to the public nor will ever understand why they changed their music style nowadays. The last time we heard from these guys on 1994's best of collection, -196°C they sounded mighty pissed off. But they seem to have mellowed out since then, and this disc has a decidedly more somber and atmospheric vibe. Though thoroughly industrial, with the requisite ingredients of treated vocals, sound effects, and electric rhythms, Neural Transmission finds Plastic Noise Experience using these elements with care; the beats are neither as sharp nor as loud, the vocals are low-key, and the effects are used more for ambiance than aggression. They were good when they were pissed; they're better now.

Testify is sideband from The Fair Sex-de Van Richter Records. What started as a sideband from Germany's The Fair Sex is now also a full band on San Diego label Van Richter. TFS started in the late 1980s. Testify started later. Yes, they've been compared to Ministry but don't pass them off as a trendy clone. Both bands did this sound parallel to each other in the mid-90s. Unlike most other similar bandwagon bands that came later, Testify don't come off sounding like a metal band with industrial tints, nor do they quite sound like a industrial band that went metal, but comfortably somewhere in-between. It's too bad most newbie kids today think Rammstein started this whole trend

Aggro guitar Industrial is what you'll find on TESTIFY's 01 CD from VAN RICHTER RECORDS. This release may remind you of MINISTRY at first, but after repeated listens you'll agree that TESTIFY is infinitely more interesting. TESTIFY writes actual songs with structures that will hold your interest. You'll find no boring repetition here. All of the elements are layered well,creating a three dimensional sound not found within most Industrial. The guitar is very trashy and skillfully played. I feel that the guitar sound itself could have been alittle beefier in places, but it fits well within the context of the music presented here. The drum parts are heavy and the vocals subtly distorted and effected. The dialog sampling is sparse and efficient, none of it sounding out of place or unnecessary. I thoroughly enjoyed TESTIFY's 01 release, would highly recommend it to all Industrial, Thrash and Death fans alike. Originally copyrighted in 1992 this is a Van Richter domestic reissue. The previously released material is supplemented with two new songs. Like Nachtstrom the release starts off with four or five industrial, distorted guitar tracks that recall KMFDM (while being better than any KMFDM release from the same time period) and Ministry's The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste. The teutonic sturm und Drang turns disturbing and haunting for the last third of this disc, following the formula on Nachtstrom. Especially effective is the title track Magnum Force and its use of the Kurtz/ Brando I never want to forget speech from Apocalypse Now. This heavy industrial beat music relies on driving guitars and potent drumming. However these musicians are real stylists. A ten minute Das Neue Fleisch features choral vocals and a dark mysterious mood

-196°C is the band's first U.S. album, drawing together two previous releases. Many of these songs are in the traditionally sparse industrial-dance vein (a la Front 242) but they truly excel when they move outside this framework. "Dream Destructor" and "Synthesis" are slower sinuous and infinitely more threatening. There is a sense of something evil stalking you in the dark. "Visage de Plastique" with its conventional Ultravox feel is unintentionally sensual - not industrial, but hard-edged synth-pop. But the best is "Frozen Masses" , a dance piece filled with slowly moving synthetic chords, a strongly Kraftwerkian theme and computerized voices

GuG carry a perception that they're an industrial band but break out of that mold with this album. It's less industrial, more goth rock. But don't think 'Sisters of Murphy'. It's more similar to L'Ame Immortelle and features some supporting female vox from Jenny Kahler and Sandra Hammer. This domestically re-releases a 1999 CD originally on a small label by the guy from Lacrimosa, remastered with new art, and adds 3 unlisted tracks from the long out-of-print GuG sideband Trauma album Fractal (orig on Machinery label), including a Kraftwerk cover and the long version of 'Desire Lasts Forever', previously issued in short form on the 'Frozen' ep. It combines traditional rock instruments and EBM tools and sounds but is neither a 'rock' album or a purely 'industrial' CD. With "Frozen" the Girls under Glass published their first Maxi-CD from their album "Minddiver". It did take a long time to get the release for publication, but once it was granted one of the most daring conversations of all times was finally made accessible to the public. Hard electro-sounds, mixed with similar guitar chords banging with gigantic energy through the boxes directly into the ears of the listener and take him to a trip into so far undiscovered music worlds. On the Maxi-CD there are five more pieces, besides the title track. With all songs the music defines the pieces and the singing is just heard faintly in the background. "Nightmares" is a collection of the band's earlier releases with a few extra unreleased cover songs. Although I've suffered through more than enough covers of the "Halloween" theme, "Der Mussolini" and (of course) "Down in the Park", I have to admit that there's something about Girls Under Glass' sound that I always appreciate. New is a somewhat "pop" but very appealing version of Simple Minds' "New Gold Dream." The Fair Sex returns with a brand new release, not new album, titled Drop your Anxiety which is all about remixing old songs. To give a brief introduction to the whole, The Fair Sex used to be one of the pioneers of the gothic rock scene, and I say gothic rock due their heavy guitar rigs that were established back in the 80's. To my ears Drop your Anxiety is a necessary release of an old band who wishes to follow up with today's sound. Not that I necessarily agree with such an action but when the outcome is worth listening then I have no problem with it. All the remixes moves under an electronic overall feeling and if you are familiar with the old songs then it is more than obvious what they are trying to achieve through this, with the ebm feeling dominating and the guitar characteristics having a secondary word to the whole. Most people will love this and especially dj's but people who support the old sound will get disappointed for either the end result or the fact that they changed the sound in order to follow up. In summary, I enjoyed the listen a lot and this release is already a collectors item but I am sure that THE FAIR SEX fans will stick up with the original work. - John Gedeon "Vassago", The Enochian Apocalypse e-zine

German electro industrial band THE FAIR SEX, have sent me their Double CD titled "The Dark Ages". As soon as I put in the cd's, they played back to back non stop. I went home and had a great workout to it as well later that night. I'm not to familiar with the German music scene, but if you familiarize it to sounds that we recieve out this direction, i'd have to say that if you take Rammstein and Marilyn Manson , and shake em up in a bottle, you'll come out with "The Fair Sex". Altough listening to sooo many songs, it was too much for me to pick out any outstanding singles or songs that stood above the rest.. regardless, it's mindless candy.. Whether you call them electro, industrial, or Electronic Body Music, there's no doubt that The Fair Sex are one of the originals. Hailing from the appropriately industrial German town of Essen , they started out in '85 when industrial meant Einsturzende Neubauten and Test Dept., with nary a poppy keyboard line within earshot. But since establishing themselves in the Skinny Puppy mold, they have not shifted one iota. At least not as far as we can tell, since their new album like their first U.S. release "Machine Bites" is a collection of old songs dated back to before their last album, "Labyrinth". This is strictly formula stuff, a soundscape created by drum programs and staccato keyboard lines, enlivened by the thunderous arrival of giant slabs of distorted guitar which like most T. Rexes in The Lost World just sit there and roar. The best track "No Excuse" is a poppier more melodic tune that gives the band's darkness more breathing room. But overall, what this album longs for is a breath of fresh air. Fine you are alive. Now give us some new material. - Dave Kendall, Bikini Magazine

Compiled from the albums Spell of Joy and Bite Release Bite plus songs from their three singles, "Not Now, Not Here" for example is pure dark dance, but commercial enough for Dave Gahan to sell his soul for. "Frantic" in contrast is purer industrial but still maintains a driving beat further in "Whats to be Done" has an atmospheric key board cloaked in goth's dark colors, while "Prisca" mixes in synthpop and "Soulspirit" could appear in KMFDM's songbook. Vocals range from compressed to untreated and even include some harmonies. Between the main songs, short sampled pieces ranging from ambient to industrial somehow tie it all together. If Machine Bites sounds like a garbled mess, you've missed the point. The Fair Sex manage to stretch across the electro field but never loose touch with their vision of dance rhythms and melodies. If you're unfamiliar with their name, join the club but something this good should not go unnoticed much longer.
